All Works > A Question of Scaffolding

This body of work was made between 2013 and 2015 while I was teaching at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Millersville University in Pennsylvania. It began as a simple question about how the structure of a base, scaffolding or prop can determine a form? The work grew larger and larger as a way to imbed physical tension in the work, and there were numerous failures. The starting points would often stem from the process itself – the shape of a wood board, the dowels used to hold up a form, the scale of a cinderblock. My previous work examined the still life by using various objects that were constantly being arranged and rearranged – this work attempted to make singular, autonomous sculptures about stillness itself.
